Announcing Certificate of Commendation, IAML (Australia)

At the 2004 Biennial General Meeting in Canberra, a proposal for a Certificate of Commendation was accepted. The IAML (Australia) Certificate of Commendation is to be presented as a mark of distinction to anyone who has made a distinctive contribution to music librarianship or music bibliography in Australia, or who has rendered notable service to the Branch. Membership of IAML is not a criterion for nomination.

Below are the guidelines for the awarding of the Certificate of Commendation. Members and colleagues are encouraged to nominate anyone who they believe has made a significant contribution to music librarianship or music bibliography in Australia, or who has rendered notable service to the Branch.

Guidelines for Certificate of Commendation, IAML (Australia)

IAML (Australia) intends to honour significant contributions to music libraries or music scholarship with a Certificate of Commendation. It may be that several Commendations will be issued at a given Biennial General Meeting but if no suitable candidates are nominated, no Commendations will be issued.

1. A Certificate of Commendation may be offered as a mark of distinction to anyone who has made a distinctive contribution to music librarianship or music bibliography in Australia, or who has rendered notable service to the Branch. Membership of IAML is not a criterion for nomination.

2. Any financial member of the Branch may nominate a candidate for a Certificate of Commendation to the Executive Committee.

3. Self-nomination is not allowed and two other members of IAML (Australia)
must support the nomination. Members may be personal or institutional members

4. A nomination must be made on the appropriate form to the Secretary, IAML (Australia) no later than three months before a Biennial General Meeting.

5. The nomination should include a citation (approximately 1000 words) outlining the distinctive contribution the candidate has made to music librarianship or music bibliography in Australia or their significant contribution to IAML (Australia). Supporting documentation may be submitted for consideration.

6. The National Executive Committee will consider each nomination on its merits and arrange for the creation of a Certificate of Commendation in the appropriate form and a copy of the citation to be available before the Biennial Conference.

7. The President of IAML (Australia) will normally present any Certificates of Commendation at the beginning of the Biennial General Meeting.

8. A list of recipients of the Certificate of Commendation with the citation for the award will be maintained on the IAML (Australia) website.
